Parking with a Blue Badge

If you have a Blue Badge you can park for free for at least 3 hours almost everywhere.
This applies to all Pay & Display bays, all single yellow lines, and most double yellow lines.
It does not apply to Resident Permit Only bays, but these are rare in Croydon, except near Coulsdon South station.
The only exceptions where you can't park are red lines and where and when loading restrictions apply, shown by signs and marks on
the kerb.
Of course your Blue Badge must be used and displayed correctly.

Parking in Purley for disabled people

Would like to draw your attention that Purley Pool has no spaces for disabled people to park which would enable them to park near the pool and gain access for swimming. The club for disabled people, Enterprise, which meets at 8.00 pm on Friday night has asked Croydon Council for designated areas which seem to have fallen on deaf ears and it means that the Club is no longer supported by members whose mobility prevents them parking in the car park (lifts stop working by 8.00 pm) and walking down a very dangerous ramp (for cars only).

Disabled parking on high street

There is a disabled bay about 100m down the road from the pool (on the same side of the road). Not exactly outside I know, but its probably easier to navigate 100m of the high street than the multi storey!

Disable Parking Outside Purley Pool

Carol - Councillor Lynne Hale raised this issue about the Enterprise Club not being able to park close by to the Pool and a report was submitted to the Croydon Council's Traffic Management Committee meeting on 10 February last. The proposals according to the report, which is available on line to see - says that it is proposed to change the single yellow line outside the pool to a double yellow line, where the Club's minibus can park for up to 3 hours when displaying a blue badge.
If this report was approved, no doubt it will take a few weeks for this proposal to go through the legal process.

Blue Badges

As a recent beneficiary of the "disabled" badge I must comment that this concession is a wonderful aid to those of us who have problems with mobility. The provision of the disabled bays and ability to use a parking bay close to our destinations (for free!) means that I for one can retain my shopping independence and continue to look after myself. I was charged £2 to cover the cost of the badge and administration which is a mere token and would like to thank all those involved at Croydon Council for their assistance with this scheme. The provision of these facilities is a great gift and I am sure has allowed many folk to continue a qulity of life which otherwise would have ended. I never thought I would be in a position to require this concession and am deeply appreciative of it. Jeremy BBB (Blue Badge Bloke).
