ROAD PLAN SUGGESTIONS: . . . . REPLACE GYRATORY WITH CROSS-ROADS . . . . . RUSSELL HILL ROAD TWO-WAY . . . . BANSTEAD ROAD TO BE BUSES ONLY. . . . . CONSULTANTS TO REPORT FOLLOWING TALKS WITH TESCO & TfL

This outline road plan proposal for Purley Cross is likely to be put forward at the Purley and Kenley Neighbourhood Partnership meeting later this month by consultants appointed by Croydon Council.
The scheme was outlined at the recent Purley community planning week-end held by the consultants as a possible suggestion. The scheme replaces the current gyratory system with a cross-roads. Traffic currently using the one-way Banstead Road would go up a two-way Russell Hill Road. Banstead Road would be for buses only.
Consultants Alan Baxter Associates, working on behalf of Croydon Council, met with TfL (Transport for London), Tesco and their traffic consultants prior to the recent community planning weekend to discuss the scheme. At the planning week-end the lead consultant, John Thompson, suggested that the area of the gyratory system made redundant by the new road scheme could contain a new building with more shops.
The Purley Mail has asked for a copy of any detailed information that may be presented by the consultants at the Neighbourhood Partnership meeting so that it may be published and studied prior to the meeting to be held at 7.30 at Christ Church Hall on September 23rd.

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION FEELS THAT NEIGHBOURHOOD PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS ARE FAILING TO GIVE RESIDENTS SAY IN TOWN'S AFFAIRS
The Purley & Kenley Residents' Association feels that the Neighbourhood Partnership meetings organised by Croydon Council have become "simply a promotional PR exercise on behalf of the Council."
In a letter to the "Croydon Advertiser" last week making suggestions for improvements chairman of the Association, Tarsem Flora, said, ". . . . in spite of all the statements that emerge from the Council officies that it will seek the views of the local communities prior to making decisions, the facts do not support that."
