NEW ONLINE REPORTING FOR ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Croydon Council has developed a reporting form on its Website for residents plagued with yobs, fly tipping, nuisance neighbours or any other kind of antisocial behaviour. Go to www.croydon.gov.uk/reportasb and give details of the problem. You can remain anonymous if you wish or leave contact details so that the Council can update you with the actions being taken. If there is a serious incident you should phone the police before making any report. Dial 999 if the incident is still happening and you require an emergency response. Alternatively contact your Safer Neighbourhood Team when an immediate response is not necessary.

4-YEAR REPRIEVE for PURLEY POOL . . . . . CONSULTATION CASH to INVESTIGATE if PURLEY CROSS can be IMPROVED
Picture: Purley Swimming Pool , Gym and multi-storey car park that were previously planned to be closed last year prior to being demolished, are to stay open for another four years. The leader of Croydon Council, Cllr Mike Fisher, gave the news this week to Fred Wallis, who has led the campaign to keep a pool in Purley. At a meeting at the Pool on Tuesday Cllr Fisher (left) and local Councillors Donald Speakman and Badsha Quadir met Fred (centre) and Wendy Smith, of Fusion, who run the pool for the Council.
Cllr Fisher gave the group the news that the decision had been made to keep the pool open for at least another four years. The hour long meeting also toured the pool to discuss aspects of pool management such as cleaning and low level maintenance.

TfL give Council 200,000 POUNDS to INVESTIGATE possible ROAD IMPROVEMENTS at PURLEY CROSS
TfL has given Croydon Council 200,000 pounds to employ consultants to investigate possible ways to improve traffic flow at the junction of the A23 and A22 in Purley. Discussing the scheme with Purley traders on Tuesday, Cllr Steve O’Connell said that he welcomed the investigation, but could not forecast an outcome. He commented – the result may be to simply leave things as they are.
Over the last five years four road transport consultants have studied how changes could be made to the Purley gyratory system. One suggestion that was part of a Tesco enlargement scheme was for a crossroad system to be introduced. Tesco was to part fund the changes, but withdrew from the scheme. Consultants were later appointed and put forward another scheme incorporating crossroads, but this failed to obtain funding from TfL and the Ministry of Transport as it was deemed to have unproven benefits in traffic flow.
Comments from traders at the meeting criticised TfL for not allowing town entry signs into Purley saying they would clutter main roads into the town. On trader commented - Because main roads pass through the town does not mean we do not need to tell people where the town is. We need signs like Banstead, Wallington and Selsdon.
Another comment was that the bus lane TfL had installed at Old Lodge Lane was unnecessary and slowed traffic exiting the gyratory, and that the bus stand currently in the new town square area should be removed.

EXHIBITION of PURLEY IMPROVEMENT PLANS gets GENERAL APPROVAL and START DATE . . . .
Picture: There was overall approval by the steady stream of visitors who attended the exhibition of the Councils plans for improving the Purley street scene held last week-end. However, some representatives of local organisations who had attended consultation meetings were disappointed that suggestions made had not been incorporated in the scheme. One suggestion not taken up was that the bus stand used for parking buses during drivers rest periods and in the centre of the new Town Square area (above) should be moved. Other suggestions were that some artwork should be included and that the exit and entrance of the multi-storey car park be reversed to avoid car park exit traffic passing through the square. Neither suggestion is included in the scheme.
It is planned for work on the improvements to commence in October.
